Chase has partnered with DoorDash for years, offering free DashPass benefits to Chase Sapphire cardholders and discounted passes to others. That partnership was set to expire at the end of this year … but this week, Chase and DoorDash announced an extension all the way through 2027!
And it's getting even better. Travelers with the *chase sapphire preferred* or the *chase sapphire reserve* now get a new monthly coupon of up to $10 off on grocery, convenience, and other non-restaurant orders. Meanwhile, Chase Freedom and Slate® cardholders will get the same up to $10 off coupon on a quarterly basis – a nice perk for cards that don't charge an annual fee.
Sapphire Reserve cardholders have long gotten a $5 per month DoorDash credit in addition to a complimentary DashPass, and that's not going anywhere. Starting Feb. 1, 2025, that $5 credit is being rebranded to a monthly $5 discount on restaurant orders.
The timing of this announcement is no doubt intentional: Chase's longstanding partnership with Instacart expired at the end of July. This expanded partnership with DoorDash largely fills that gap.
That said, Sapphire Reserve cardholders are getting a bit of a raw deal. The previous relationship with Instacart provided a $15 per month statement credit. But Sapphire Preferred cardholders are faring much better – their credit goes from $15 each quarter to $10 a month with DoorDash.
Read on for more details about how this partnership works and what it means for your wallet.
What's DashPass?
Since 2018, DoorDash's DashPass has been providing members with free delivery and discounted service fees on all deliveries. In addition, members get a 5% DoorDash credit on all pickup orders and exclusive access to members-only products and discount offers.
Ordinarily, the service costs $9.99 per month or $96 per year, but Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cardholders get a free DashPass membership with their cards. If you've got a Freedom or Slate card in your wallet, you can get three months of free DashPass, followed by nine months at a discounted rate. That will be changing to a six-month free trial without the continuing, discounted rate effective Feb. 1, 2025.
How to Register
If you haven't yet linked your eligible Chase card to your DoorDash account, simply download the DoorDash app and create an account. Alternatively, you can enroll online here.
Once prompted, you will want to add one of the Chase credit cards mentioned above as a payment method. As soon as you do this, you should get a pop-up offering you a complimentary DashPass service through 2027 – or for three months, followed by nine months of discounted DashPass with the Freedom or Slate cards.
If you're already signed up, you don't need to do anything. Your DashPass has automatically been extended to 2027, and you can start taking advantage of your new monthly up to $10 off coupon for grocery, convenience, and other non-restaurant orders right away.
Those with the Sapphire Reserve Card will see their monthly $5 in-app credit converted to a $5 discount on restaurant orders beginning Feb. 1, 2025.
If you've got a Freedom or Slate Card and have already activated your DashPass benefits, you'll now receive up to $10 off non-restaurant orders once per quarter.
What this Means for Your Chase Cards
This is great news if you hold one of the Chase cards eligible for this offer – especially if you frequently order from DoorDash. This partnership was originally set to expire on Dec. 31, 2024, but now you've got an additional three years to take advantage … and it's even better than before.
The new monthly $10 off non-restaurant orders benefit for Sapphire Reserve and Preferred cardholders is a great addition. And even no-annual fee Freedom and Slate cardholders get some love with the same discount being added to their account on a quarterly basis.
If you'd otherwise be paying $96 per year for DashPass, this benefit alone is enough to cover the cost of carrying the Sapphire Preferred Card. Add in the new, up to $10 off monthly coupon for non-restaurant orders, and it's a clear win.
At a time when Chase is facing increased competition from cards like the *venture x*, and even the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey Visa® Card, it's nice to see this partnership extended and expanded to provide additional value to new and existing cardmembers.
The Sapphire Reserve hasn't seen a significant update since January 2020, when this DoorDash partnership was first launched. To say it's due for another refresh is an understatement.
Bottom Line
Chase and DoorDash have extended (and expanded) their partnership all the way through Dec. 31, 2027! Considering DashPass typically costs $9.99 a month, you can save some decent money with this benefit.
If you hold a Chase Sapphire card and have already registered for a free DashPass, you won't need to do anything: Chase will automatically extend your membership. In addition, you'll receive a new $10 monthly credit for non-restaurant orders.
Meanwhile, Freedom and Slate cardholders who have activated a Freedom or Slate DashPass membership now receive up to $10 off each quarter on non-restaurant orders.
